All About Intersectionality

I saw the trailer for Proud Mary and I’m really hyped for it! ^_^ Taraji P. Henson plays a hit-non-man! It’s nice to see hit-non-men represented in films.

What’s more, Mary is a hit-non-man of colour, which means that not only is she oppressed for being a violence industry worker (just like me!), she might also find herself excluded from white feminism (also just like me!). We have so much in common!

This concept is called intersectionality, and was invented by some lady called Kimberly something. I admit I wasn’t really paying attention, I just skimmed a few headlines on Jezebel.

But the main point of intersectionality (as I understand it) is that women of colour are sometimes excluded from feminist narratives, and white men such as myself are also excluded. So if you think about it, I’m just as oppressed as women of colour, and we should all be allowed into women’s spaces!

That means, as a white man, my targets have got to let me into their spaces. Otherwise they’re being racist.
